The Fair Housing Law states it shall be unlawful to make, print, or publish, or cause to be made any notice, statement or advertisement wth respect to the sale or rental of a dwelling that indicates any preference, limitation, (exclusion), or discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, handicap disability, familial status, or national origin, or an intention to make any such preference, limitation or discrimination.

 All advertising agencies, newspapers, sales firms, realtors, and management companies as well as their clients, are subject to the provisions of the Fair Housing Laws.

Canada May Have The Snow

Don't get me wrong, I am certain that parts of Canada can be beautiful in winter.  However, those harsh, very cold  temperatures and snow covered roadways make for a bone chilling day, not a laid back chillin' time.  

Take a look at this, Winter.. Summer.. which side appeals to you?  You could be on the beach making castles in the sand, instead of your driveway making snowmen.

Welcome to Southwest Florida, land of warm sun, sugar white beaches and crystal blue waters.   It is not just fishing that attracts people to the Sunshine State, it is called that for a reason.  We are much more than a pretty face, well, we are that too, but we have so many things you can do to enjoy life, or nothing at all.  A change in latitude does indeed make a change in attitude.

The Canadian Government has, effective immediately, increased the amount of time you may be absent from your home province from six to seven months or 212 days while still retaining your provincial health coverage.  THAT IS GREAT NEWS for long term vacationers who want to stay south for the winter and beyond.

Also, your retiree visas now permit you to spend up to seven months in the United States without any problems or need for renewal paperwork and Florida has repealed your need to possess an International Driving Permit (IDP) to operate a motor vehicle.  Every corner you turn is being made easier for you to travel south and enjoy your life.

For the first time in several years, the Canadian dollar has surpassed the U.S. dollar in value.  That is the reason you have turned your attention to getting out of the harsh winters and enjoying your holidays here in the States.  You can get much more for your money and we welcome you.  Please enjoy all the States have to offer.

According to Barbara Watt-Biggs, "Canadians are a conservative bunch, they watch, they wait, they study, they watch, they ask, they wait some more and then when all the stars line up they jump into real estate with a vengence.  They have done their due diligence and they know they would have to be "loonies" not to take advantage of these incredible real estate deals, and so they buy."  Canadians are very educated consumers making wise decisions.

Your population is changing just as it is in the U.S.  The aging baby boomers are coming of retirement age in large numbers and are looking for that one last home for retirement in a warm climate destination.  They are also looking for that first vacation home, also in a warm climate destination.  And last but not least you want an investment that will carry you through retirement and be able to leave a legacy to your family.  You want American properties in sunshine destinations and Southwest Florida is at the top of that list.  We have it all; sun, water, recreation of all types, social events that match every love, cultural venues that draw big name performers or you can just kick back where your dollar buys more fun in the sun and read that book you've been wanting to devour.

Jeffrey Rogers, COO and president of Integra Realty Resources, a real estate valuation firm says that Canadians are able to afford more house in America than they can in their own country.  Canada's home prices are on a steady double-digit rise.  America's home prices have gone down in the past couple of years in resort areas due to the economic downturn in housing.  The economic turmoil here in the States works to your benefit by creating a Disneyland-type environment for international real estate buyers.  You are seeing property sold at around $100 per square foot or less here in Southwest Florida.  That compares to an average price of $350 per square foot in parts of Canada.  This is particularly true in your major markets of Alberta, Ontario and Quebec.  According to Rogers, it appears to you that FLORIDA IS ON SALE, but no one knows for how long.  So a home you can afford in a place you want to be, is a match made in heaven.  Or in this case paradise.
