In Sanibel  Florida

Sanibel Island

Sanibel is a barrier island that lies east to west instead of north and south which is very unusual.  The Island is twelve (12) mles long and four (4) miles wide and lies just off the southwest coast of Fort Myers, Florida.  The only way to reach Sanibel is by traversing the "Causeway" from the mainland.  Sanibel was incorporated in 1974, so very new to the city scene.

The Island is world renowned for shelling seashells because of that unusual geographic orientation.  Lying east to west allows the water to act like a scoop and gather up and dump some of the most beautiful, whole, unbroken seashells along its pristine, white sand beaches for you to come along and make part of your vacation memories.  It doesn't cost anything but your time.  Know, you cannot remove any "living" item from the sea, Star Fish, Sand Dollars, Hermit Crab Shells.

You will learn what the locals call the "Sanibel Stoop" or the Captiva Crouch"  while you are next to the crystal blue waters of the Gulf of Mexico walking on one of those pristine beaches searching for that special shell to take home.  Everybody does it, everybody wants to do it, Stoop or Crouch makes no difference, just bend down and pick up that shell.

Sanibel is home to the J.N. "Ding Darling" National Wildlife Refuge and Bird Sanctuary.  The Island itself is actually a wildlife preserve with 60% of the Island a natural protected habitat for wildlife and birds.

With the average temperature of 75 degrees, it is easy to see why Sanibel gets so many naational and internantional visitors and Snowbirds down from the north to escape the cold weather.  If you are coming to Sanibel, you are coming for a reason, there is no just passing through.  You are either on the Island or you are on the mainland.

You won't want to miss out on the excellent restaurants, accommodations, golf, fishing, boating, shopping, bike paths and theatrical productions that are offered year round for your pleasure and enjoyment.  A trip would not be complete without visiting one of the world's largest seashell dealers, Sanibel Seashell Industries, or the Farmers Market on Sundays.

Let's see who can find the prettiest shell of the vacation trip.  Mom, Dad, Little Johnny, Susie, Grandma...........  Or better yet, maybe you will decide to stay and call Sanibel home and purchase that perfect second or retirement home.  We would be honored to help you find that special place in the sun.
